Hospital landing site
See more

Hospital landing site is a special place to land. By definition, it’s located near a medical facility, which is already a cause for strict regulations, for example regarding the environmental protection (noise). Additionally, aviation regulations impose on aircraft operators (including the Polish Air Medical Rescue) an obligation, that on the hospital landing sites located in an unfriendly environment (without places allowing emergency landing at any time), the only helicopters allowed to be used are the performance Class 1 helicopters – they have to be able to abort landing or takeoff at any time and land safely or fly to another landing site.

Below we present some photos of hospital landing sites.

Landing sites used around the clock must meet the same requirements, that are contained in the Annex to the Regulation of the Minister of Health of 3 November 2011 concerning the hospital emergency departments. Below we include the content of this regulation:

The condition needed for the Polish Medical Air Rescue to use a landing site is to write it into the Operations Manual. To accelerate this process, inform us about designing, building and finishing your landing site by sending us an email to operacje.lotnicze@lpr.com.pl

Daytime landing site

Construction of a basic hospital landing site, which is only used during the day, doesn’t have to be a large investment. In the annex we present the minimum requirements that the landing site has to fulfil. Using these parameters allows to easity extend the functionality of the landing in the future, by hardening of the touchdown zone and installation of lighting which enables performing night flight operations.

Place of event
See more

Place of event is the site of the event leading to a sudden health threat, and the area on which its effects are extended (in accordance with the Act of 8 September 2006 on the State Emergency Medical Services).

During the daytime rescue missions carried out by the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS), the helicopter crew chooses for landing the closest spot to the place of event.

The minimum size of such place can’t be smaller than 2D x 2D (where D is the largest size of the helicopter with rotating rotors, for EC 135 helicopters 2D x 2D is 25m x 25m).

DURING THE DAY, THE PLACE OF EVENT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE SECURED BY THE FIRE DEPARTMENT.

LANDING SITE IS CHOSEN BY THE HELICOPTER CREW.

Municipal landing site
See more

Municipal landing sites are designated landing sites in each municipality, which are to be used to transfer the patient from the ground rescue team to the helicopter and to the specialized medical facility with a 24h landing site. Municipal landing sites have to fulfil the criteria as written in the attachement.

Municipal landing site is not a hospital landing site!

When the municipal landing site designation programme has started, they were called on paper “other places designated for takeoffs and landings” (in accordance with the guidelines of the President of the Civil Aviation Office).

Currently, the amended Aviation Law Act withdrew the notion of the “other place designated for takeoffs and landings”. The name “municipal landing sites” was invented by the Polish Medical Air Rescue.

The current, amended Aviation Law Act does not provide legal protection for landings. To avoid the limitations of your hospital landing site’s utility, register it as an airport. The necessary information is provided by the Civil Aviation Office.
